Welcome to REI for Freedom, I want to start out out by say I am not an expert in real estate, finances, etc. My goal is financial freedom and to me that means “time”. Time to do what I want when I want. That could be time with family and friends, time to travel, time to work on my hobbies and passions. So this website is my journey towards that and information and resources I find along the way. My goal and hope is that my journey and these resources can help someone else as well achieve whatever goal they might have. My primary focus is real estate, but I also have also come across other avenues to help achieve these goals as well as some tools, and resources.
Growing up my Dad always invested in Real Estate. He was a small business owner and used real estate as a means for retirement or at least to help him reach retirement sooner. It was his 401K in a sense. I also saw how it could benefit you now first hand and not just when you retired.
When I got married back in 2009 my Dad encouraged me to purchase a duplex and suggested we live in one side and rent out the other unit. It was from that point on I was hooked. The problem was I was in school and really wasn’t making a lot money. I thought to myself I need money to continue my investing dreams at that point real estate got pushed to the back burner (looking back that was a mistake). In 2012 my wife and I bought a home and rented out the basement “house hacked” the home until 2015. As our family grew we decided we wanted the space and took over the whole house.
In 2017/2018 I revisited my desires and dreams of becoming a full time real estate investor. Even though I felt like I missed out 7 years of being able to acquire more properties and growing my net worth and passive income. I was excited though about what I had learned along the way through podcasts, books, and family and friends experiences in investing.
